THE VICA TRAINING FUND

The Vancouver Island Construction Association (VICA) is a non-profit association dedicated to the promotion of construction investment. This scholarship fund was developed as part of their continued commitment to workforce development.

There are currently 8 scholarship opportunities open. Eligibility details are listed below.

WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION SCHOLARSHIP

The VICA Women in Construction Scholarship will be awarded to:

  • A women enrolled at Camosun College, VIU or North Island College, and
  • In a construction foundations program or
  • Level 1, 2 or 3 of a construction apprenticeship and
  • Continuing on with her studies in construction

Submission is via a 500-word essay and transcripts. The recipient will receive $500 to be applied to tuition fees.

This scholarship is for a student that has completed level 1, 2 or 3 training during the current calendar year. 

Applications to the fund must be received prior to January 30th.

Your application to the VICA Women in Construction Scholarship consists of:

  • General application form - filled out online
  • Unofficial Transcript & Proof of Registration
  • Statement of Personal Goals (500 words)
    • Consider Including:
      • How you decided to pursue a trades career
      • Significant achievements
      • your involvement in the community
      • The impact you hope to make in the industry and your community,
      • What barriers you may have faced or overcome to get where you are now
      • What inspires you to succeed in your chosen trade
      • What you think is the biggest challenge for women in the trades

Applications are considered ineligible if the training has already started or has been completed.

Please note that once you begin filling out the application form, you cannot save and return, it must be completed in sessions.

Funding applications will be reviewed by Foundation Staff and our volunteer team of advisors, which includes two appointees from the Vancouver Island Construction Association.

Final approval will be made by the executive directors of the Foundation Board.

By applying, you consent to and acknowledge that the Construction Foundation of BC may share information about the application and/or your organization with our staff, donors, advisors and community partners.

Should you be successful in receiving funds from the VICA Scholarship Fund from the Construction Foundation of BC, you consent to and acknowledge that the granting detail may be made public and shared by VICA & the Construction Foundation on their websites, social media channels and various outreach mediums.

SECONDARY SCHOOL APPRENTICE SCHOLARSHIP RECOMMENDATION

The VICA Secondary School Apprentice Scholarship is awarded to the top Level 1 construction apprentice on Vancouver Island that has completed a training program through South Island Partnership, Central Island Partnership or North Island Partnership. Each partnership reports the highest achieving student in each of the trades listed below to VICA. Each partnership office will provide marks and a short recommendation (attitude, attendance, motivation, etc.) for each applicant. Each recipient will receive $500 to be applied to tuition fees - 6 scholarships provided.

This scholarship is for students that have completed level 1 training during the current calendar year. 

Applications to the fund must be received prior to January 30th.

Your recommendation to the VICA Secondary School Apprenticeship Fund consists of:

  • General application form - filled out online
  • Unofficial Transcript & Proof of Registration
  • Recommendation - include information around the student's attitude, motivation, attendance and any other relevant information.

Please note that once you begin filling out the application form, you cannot save and return, it must be completed in sessions.

The VICA SuperStar Scholarship of $500 will be awarded to:

  • An individual enrolled at Camosun College, VIU or North Island College, and
  • In a construction foundations program or
  • Level 1, 2 or 3 of a construction apprenticeship (as below) and
  • Continuing on his or her studies in construction

Submission is via a 500-word essay and transcripts (details below). The recipient will receive $500 to be applied to tuition fees.

This scholarship is for a student that has completed level 1, 2 or 3 training during the 2017 calendar year. 

Applications to the fund must be received prior to January 30th.

Your application to the VICA SuperStar Scholarship consists of:

  • Statement of Personal Goals (500 words)
    • Consider Including:
      • How you decided to pursue a trades career
      • Your academic achievements
      • Your involvement in the community
      • The impact you hope to make in the industry and your community

      • What you think is the biggest challenge for trades in society
