SHIFT FUND RECIPIENT NAT ENJOYING INCREASED FREEDOM AFTER RECEIVING CLASS 7 LICENSE

by Foundation Team / Wednesday, 17 February 2021 / Published in NEWS

The Construction Foundation of BC recently caught up with SHIFT Fund recipient Nat, who enrolled and successfully completed Vancouver Driving School’s driver training program. As a recipient of the SHIFT Fund, Nat’s driver training costs were covered.

Nat successfully completed his driver training and was awarded his automobile ‘Novice’ license (Also referred to as a Class 7 license) on his first attempt! The freedom Nat has experienced by acquiring his ’N’ has had a positive effect on his life professionally, as well as on a personal level.

“I often faced the hurdle of not having a driver’s license in the professional world but it also impacted my personal life,” said Nat. “Getting a driver’s license is important to me because it allows greater access to opportunities. For example, I am now no longer restricted from jobs that require travel since I have my new driver’s license. Moreover, my personal life benefits because I am now able to drive either myself to places I would have otherwise not been able to get to with lack of transit access for myself and one other passenger, until I get my Class 5 which allows more passengers.”

Through The SHIFT Fund, the Construction Foundation of BC is pleased to offer Driver’s Licence training grants for youth in care, who have transitioned from care or are classified as at risk. The approximate value of each grant for driver training is $1500 and will be paid directly to the training provider.

“Ultimately, my N is a pathway to better opportunities and will certainly benefit me in life. I was very happy with the results of  getting my license, which have come from very competent training and flexible schedules on their part in addition to the funding I have received from the Construction Foundation.”

The SHIFT Fund helps to reduce barriers and connects young people at risk with the tools and training needed to be successful as they enter the workforce. From drivers’ licenses to safety certifications, and industry led construction 101 programs, the Construction Foundation provides opportunities for young people to accumulate the education and training needed to be successful on the job.
